HAWAII SENATE CANDIDATE CAM CAVASSO ANNOUNCES PLAN FOR ECONOMIC AND NATIONAL SECURITY
HONOLULU, OCTOBER 4, 2010— Cam Cavasso, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate Seat currently held by Daniel Inouye, today released the second element of his four-part plan to revive the economy and create jobs in Hawaii and throughout the nation. The “Plan for Jobs and a 21st Century Economy” and its first element, “Innovation and the Economy” is available at http://www.camcavasso.com . The two additional elements of the plan will be released weekly over the final weeks of the campaign.
Part II of “Plan for Jobs and a 21st Century Economy,” titled “Economic and National Security” focuses on the national security and economic risks of the federal government’s inflated debt, the need to secure the nation’s borders, create a guest-worker program and provide more legal avenues to immigration, and addresses the needs to care for our veterans as they return from Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Senator Inouye has put the United States in danger by increasing the federal debt by fifty percent since taking over as Chairman of the Appropriations Committee,” Cavasso said. “The interest on the federal debt costs nearly as much as the budget for the Pentagon. Meanwhile, Senator Inouye has voted against $21 billion for Veterans’ disability and healthcare programs, and advocated for an open border. If we are going to grow this economy and create jobs, we need to start paying down the national debt, not add to it, we need to find legal avenues for immigrants to come and participate in our labor markets and we need to take care of those who have defended our freedoms abroad.”
Cavasso represented District 51 in Windward Oahu for three terms in the Hawaii State Legislature from 1984 – 1990. For 22 years, he has worked as a financial advisor with Mass Mutual Financial Group, and he owns a small farm in Waimanalo. A former Captain in the U.S. Army, Cavasso’s family roots in Hawaii trace back to the 1800’s when his great-grandfather served as the photographer to the royalty in the Hawaiian Kingdom. He resides with his wife Tula, two sons, three daughters, and nine grandchildren in Windward Oahu.
